Moral Hazard

Robert Reich, who one would think is too important to maintain a blog but does anyway, has an excellent column on moral hazard up.

When it comes to risky behavior in the market, America has a double standard. We’re told that economic risk-taking as the key to entrepreneurial success, but when big entrepreneurs take big risks that fail it’s amazing how often they get bailed out.


But if you’re an ordinary person who has fallen on hard times, just try declaring bankruptcy to wipe the slate clean. A new law governing personal bankruptcy makes that route harder than ever.

That bankruptcy bill remains an obscenity, and further proof that although the Republican party is a wholly corrupt entity, far too many Democrats are corrupt individually.

Robot Bats

Apparently some researchers at the University of Michigan are working on robot spy bats for the US Army. The current difficulty they are facing is that the bat designs they are able to implement are far too large.

The focus is to shrink down many electronics that while currently available would only be good if the US Army wanted, say, a 12-foot spy-bat.

I'm sorry but 12-foot robot bats are much more awesome than bat-sized robot bats. Much. Equip those bad boys with lasers and start mass production!

Useful Information - Toothpaste and Canker Sores

So, I'll break the champagne bottle over this blog by inaugurating my first category: Useful Information. Although I fully intend to spend most of my time ranting or linking to things that make me rant, or more rarely to things which are cool, I also want to record and disseminate for the general public things that are useful and yet don't seem to have widespread awareness.

One of these things is: Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, in toothpaste, causes canker sores. If you suffer from canker sores, change your toothpaste to one that does not contain Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. Your canker sores will greatly decrease.

Now, before I get slapped with legal papers...
