Discussing and defending heading styles
I'm a technical writer. When I write technical documentation, I follow strict rules about capitalizing words in headings. My companions on this site are following those rules. I started to (see my first post), but then I decided to go with an informal style.
I have to admit that I haven't paid attention to how other blogs do things. Here's a shameful admission: I tend to skim headings, or even skip them entirely. I'm not sure why I do it: Maybe I'm impatient to get to the information, or maybe I've seen too many bland, uninformative headings that add little or no value to the text. Maybe both.
Obviously, a heading, whether formal or informal, should be relevant and informative, describing the section clearly and concisely. I'll try for that, but I'm sure I'll slip into attempts to create witting post titles. I offer my sincerest apologies in advance.
