Karl's Gift List
Last updated December 4, 2009
Items in
green are new as of December 2009.
For the Whole Family:
- A Nintendo Wii
Technology:
- A nice large HDTV. Yes, this would be rather expensive.
- An extravagantly large computer monitor. 22" and up, about $200. Here is a fine example, winner of several awards and something I covet.
- A rubberized protective case for an iPod Touch - I like the iSkin evo3 I have for my older iPod.
- A new Canon digital camera. A PowerShot A series would be fine, or a PowerShot SD if you want to go more extravagant.
- A Clarisonic. Yes, I know it's for women. I am secure in my manliness.
Practical Stuff:
- A very nice laptop bag. I am quite partial to stuff by Tom Bihn, as it's super high quality and made in the USA. An ID plus Brain Cell, or any of their laptop/messenger bags, really.
- A Henckels Chef's Knife and/or cleaver. I have no chopping/cleaving knives. I prefer the five stars only because I like their grip - I think they renamed them the "Twin Cuisine" and/or "Twin Signature". The "Four Star" and "Pro S" series are nice but I don't like the grip as much.
- A pizza peel. (A peel is the giant spatula used to put pizzas into and take pizzas out of ovens.)
- A nice rectangular pizza stone.
Clothing:
- A long coat, preferably heavy, not light & thin. I want
something that would resist a baseball bat. And that reaches my knees.
Here is a good example; I almost bought this one for myself last winter. Sometimes called a "car coat" or a "three quarter coat". Not double-breasted. Black.
- Calvin Klein trunks, size Large, in black or grey.
- Button-down shirts in dark solid colors, with buttons that are the same color or just a shade off but not contrasting, e.g. a navy shirt with navy buttons or a dark green shirt with darker green buttons.
Here's a nice one from J.Crew.
- Blue jeans, any shade of blue, any brand, 38/34.
- Workout clothes:
- Basketball shorts (for working out), with pockets.
Media:
A whole bunch of books and DVDs and so forth. I like media and it makes well-priced gifts. I've moved all of that list over to Amazon.com Since I commute on BART now I go through lots of books.
